Virginia Black Sox History
While the 2003 season is the inagural season for the Virginia Black Sox, this team has a history in the DC MSBL that dates back for the past few years.
In the mid-1990's, the team was founded as the Zephyrs. After a couple of seasons, a core group of players from that team renamed the team the Homestead Grays. In the 2000 season, the Grays won their division with a 12-5-1 record, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. In 2001, the Grays finished 9-10-1 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. In 2002, with a group of players with three years' experience together, and some new key additions, the Grays rebounded some and finished 10-7-2 and again made the playoffs' second round.
In 2005, everything finally came together, and the Sox broke the playoff jinx, winning the C-Division title of the 19+ MABL Division.
